Healing (2/28/10) by Cheri

God's Protection: Ask God for protection. Especially in the areas we have dealt with the last few days: faith, love, forgiveness. I think if we are not careful, as we deal with these things our mind can easily swing the other way as our emotions begin to arise. We need to pray over our minds and hearts that fear, doubt, hurt, hatred, unforgiveness, bitterness ... do not take seed or continue to grow. May we allow the Holy Spirit to get to the root, replacing those with the fruits of the spirit!

"11) Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12) For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13) Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." Ephesians 6:11-13

"22)But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23)gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

(Look up in your concordance scriptures dealing with any of the emotions you are dealing with specifically)

Healing (2/26/10 and 2/27/10) by Cheri

Friday 2/26/10 and Saturday 2/27/10: Love & Forgiveness: There is no question that God wants us to Love and forgive each other. Love is God's command. Love is healing according to some of the verses below. Love is more than what we see in the movies and a gushy feeling. It is looking at the person for who God created them to be, getting past all the other stuff (looks, flaws, hurts they might have caused you ...) and saying "Lord help me to love this person as you love them." Sometimes that is easy and well sometimes not so much. Look at your list, or think of a person(s) whose name would be hard to fit into that statement. Or maybe you might need to put your name in that statement, asking God to help you love yourself. Forgiveness then follows suit. I feel majority of times when it is hard to love, unforgiveness is usually also present. Think again of that person you just prayed over or yourself. Ask the Holy Spirit to bring to your heart what you are needing to forgive. Pray out loud, journal, write a letter ... whatever you feel you should do to release forgiveness. I pray that Holy Spirit will guide us and protect us as we walk through this process today, bringing us closer to wholeness and healing!

1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5) It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6) Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7) It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

John 15:12-14
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13) Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. 14) You are my friends if you do what I command.

Hebrews 13:1-2
Keep on loving each other as brothers. 2) Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.

Isaiah 58:7-8
Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter-- when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? 8) Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard

Mark 11:23-25
"I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, `Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24) Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25) And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.

Proverbs 15:30
A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.

Proverbs 12:18
Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

Proverbs 16:24
Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Healing (2/25/10) by Cheri

Thursday 2/25/10: Faith: While a great amount of faith is not required for God to heal, it certainly can't hurt. With faith Jesus tells us that "Nothing will be impossible for you." I think faith comes from the acknowledgment of who God is, what he can do, what He has done and believing he can do the same for you and others! Am I always the best at this? Oh no, lol, that is why I love being reminded of these things! I think God knew that we would have a hard with this one, just look in your concordance and you will see just how much it was brought up. Here are just a few of those scriptures about faith. What I love about these stories (Matthew 9: 18-26, 27-33; Mark 2:1-12, 4:35-41) is that they came or someone came on their behalf to Jesus, that to me implies their faith in Him. They did not say "it's too much to deal with" or try to run from it, but in that moment they were desperate for change and saw he was the answer. Also, I love how God invited Peter and Abraham (Matthew 14:22-34; Romans 4: 18-25) to have faith in him, to believe he would do what he said he would do.
Today, go to God knowing and believing in him and what he can do. Respond to that still small voice calling you to have faith in him. May you have faith like the people in the stories to lay everything at his feet to be healed. Pray God's faithfulness over your list you made yesterday and have faith that he has heard your prayers and is doing a great work!

“when he said "I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, `Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." Matthew 17:19

Matthew 9: 18-26, 27-33; Mark 2:1-12; 4:35-41

Matthew 14:22-34; Romans 4: 18-25

Week 2:Healing (2/24/10) by Cheri

Week 2: Healing

Healing? What comes to mind when you here that word? I think pain, hurt, restoration, wholeness … I think of a wound that if cared properly heals, but also of a wound that is uncared for that becomes worse and spreads. I am sure images run through your head of these physical things I describe. What about the spiritual, emotional, relational wounds? What comes to mind for those? A broken relationship, hurtful words, painful past … I pray that the Holy Spirit would stir in our hearts those areas whether they be physical, emotional, spiritual, relational, personal ... that need healing. I pray that fear or doubt would become trust and faith. I pray we could hear our Father speak to us and let us mighty hand work in us! I pray that his precious blood will protect us during this week and cover us all!

heal definition heal (hēl) - transitive verb 1) to make sound, well, or healthy again; restore to health heal the sick 2) to cure or get rid of (a disease); to cause (a wound, sore, etc.) to become closed or scarred so as to restore a healthy condition 3) to free from grief, troubles, evil, etc. 4) to remedy or get rid of (grief, troubles, etc.); to make up (a breach, differences, etc.); reconcile intransitive verb 1) to become well or healthy again; be cured 2) to become closed or scarred: said of a wound

Wednesday 2/24/10: Prayer. It's just common sense that you're not likely to get something unless you ask for it. Jesus told his disciples to pray night and day and not to give up. He also told us to have the “elders” of the church pray for us. I would suggest journaling the things that come to mind when you think of healing. You could make a list (physical, emotional, spiritual, relational, or personal) and pray through each category and writing down what comes to mind, what areas do you feel need healing for you or loved ones. As you read the following scriptures you will see the prevalence of praying together. Find or call a trusted friend or leader to pray with today. Tell them some of the things that were stirred in your heart that you think God is wanting to work on this week. Cry out to him and draw near, he will hear you and draw near!

“13) Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 14) Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15) And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16) Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” ” James 5:13-16

"19) Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20) For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." Matthew 18:19-20

Psalm 34:17-18; 40:1-3; 130

Prayer and Fasting through Lent

Hello! Out of a longing to hear God and feel His presence in a new way, Aaron and I and our awesome friends Jacob and Ashley decided the take the time to devote to Him during Lent. We felt we should do this through prayer and fasting. So, I thought I would create this blog to have a place to post out thoughts, prayers, devotions, scriptures, ... publicly so anyone who wanted to join us on this journey could. We want to have all 7 days of the week be covered in scripture, prayer, and fasting. So pick a day or two each week and join in! I pray that God will shine down upon us during this time and we would sense his ever present hand guiding us and that we acknowledge him for all his is and wants to be in us! (Isaiah 58)

*If you do not have a Bible Study pattern or routine here is a simple way to get started. It’s called the SOAP method.
S – Scripture: read it, normally 2-3 times and let it soak in
O – Observation: what stands out to you, do you have any questions
A – Application: how does this passage apply to you? Are there any truths that you need to put into practice?
P – Prayer: talk to Jesus about it, especially if you don’t understand something! You can also pray the scripture. Exp. Matt. 6:19-20 “Lord you said not to store up treasures here on earth, but in heaven. Please give me the courage and strength to live out your Word and deny who I am and follow you.”
